We have such perfect grandchildren -- all of them, Hinkles and Easterlings. It was fun watching Jason and Malia coloring and conversing. Jason told Malia about the planets - they're way up there! - and she was an avid student. He also had her finding letters in one of those hidden word puzzles.
This is Disney's busiest week of the year (I'd like to know, when it's done, how this week compares to previous years, to get a good measure of the effect of the current economy), but with two young-uns and the proximity to Port Canaveral, the boys decided it would still be good to do Disney. They made the 7:00 am openings to get in the choice rides before the long lines formed. We decided to skip the crowds, costs, and early mornings. Just to be prudent, of course. Nothing to do with age. Been there, done that.
We all had dinner at Planet Hollywood one night and a new T-Rex restaurant the other. T-Rex was full of all sorts of prehistoric, Disney-animated creatures and exotic decor that ran from ice cave to undersea. Every once in a while a volcano would erupt and all the animals would roar and threaten. Sensory overload, Mike called it. Food was good and Malia and Jason got another coloring book.
New Year's Eve, the parks fill to capacity for fireworks. None of our party wanted to run that gauntlet. We saw the new year in back in Tuzigoot, happy for our 2008 experiences and especially the last week with family.
Happy New Year to All!
Thursday will be football-watching; the kids have another Disney day and fly home in late afternoon. Friday we'll start working our way south with Key West our destination next Friday. Time to go figure out our next stop.
One final picture that captures everybody's feelings, I think:
I'll add more pictures later when the kids send me some of theirs.
Cheers,
Susie and Rob
